Our initial idea was to have a murder at the start of the opening , and then have the rest of the opening the murderer fleeing from the scene but not giving anything away of the character so long shots looking at him from a distance and medium shots of the back of him.
We then believed that this may be boring and that there wouldn't be too much happening so we decided on new ideas; Firstly we start with the titles on a black screen to then go to the opening scene of a character cleaning a knife to get rid of the blood , with no visible shots of the character but of what he is doing with close ups of the knife which will have the title on such as director or cast and so on , then there will be cross cutting to a different scene of the knife being used and so on with maybe the bullet also , so we see the knife then a flashback to it being used with the bullet being fired also , with the bullet being kept to prevent him being traced.
We have decided to choose the film title , The Conspiracy as we believed it was the best out of the four film titles we analysed and we believed it was the best in contrast to our film and the most effective.
Font Ideas
To look at font ideas we went to microsoft word and looked at a lot of different fonts and these where the five we ended up with.
Our final decision for the choice of our font was the font Bank Gothic as we believed it was the best in catching the eye of a viewer and being effective for our mystery thriller.
Credit Ideas
Looking at credits , I decided to screenshot the opening credits to the mystery thriller Shutter Island , as we can see here the opening credit is the production and distribution company which is typical in films opening with the main company involved.
In the second credit we see a second production company also involved in the film , which is typical as big budget films usually have 3rd party income from elsewhere and this is something I would like to add to my film.
The third credit is of two production companies and distributors , with Appian Way productions belonging to Leonardo DiCaprio and then Sikelia Productions.
The fourth credit is of the title of the film which is much bigger and bolder than the other credits but still using the same font with the glow on the bottom and the shadow on the top , which adds a lot of effect.
In the final credit we see a completely different font and size of characters in the credit showing the setting and time of the film , I believe the change in font creates an effect as it suddenly gets you ready for the start of the film.
Production Company logo's
Production Company logo's
When we thought of production company logo's we instantly thought of 20th Century Fox as it is an extremely popular company , if not the most popular , it has distributed many successful films such as Taken , Alien and Avatar , three extremely successful films , the transition is very unique as it travels around the logo but i don't believe something like this matches the thriller genre.
Lionsgate is another successful film company that have brought about films like The Hunger Games , Reservoir Dogs and Saw , also the transition of the door opening appeals to me as it almost opens you into a new world in watching the film.
Paramount is another extremely popular film company , which distributed huge films like The Godfather , Iron Man and the Wolf of Wall Street , out of the three it is my least favourite but the background colour is bright and I believe appeals to an audience , the stars shows the companies achievements and success and also catches the eye of an audience.
Warner Bros is another huge film company , responsible for huge box office attractions like The Dark Knight Trilogy and Harry Potter. I believe the darkness in this is very effective and matches a thriller as a thriller can be dark and mysterious , and i like how the transition doesn't give too much away and adds a lot of suspense for the film ahead.
Shooting Schedule:
We will be filming from Wednesday 3rd March till Friday 5th with the possibility of extra filming if needed , so we are dependent on the quality of filming in school time , we also need to make sure surroundings dont change as this can make the film become very inaccurate therefore filming with background surroundings such as cars need to be filmed in one day.
There is no particular weather type we would like but rain will disrupt filming and too much wind may disrupt with the sound quality in the filming. So clear weather is ideal for the best quality filming.
Props:
Props in our film will be minimal as we dont believe too many props are needed but props we are considering.
The main prop we are considering using is a knife , as when looking at weapons we believed a gun may scare people who may see us filming , so a knife is going to be used , for safety reasons it will be plastic to prevent injuries. Also blood will be used by using red colouring dye mixed with water to create the look of blood which we may put onto the knife to connote the idea of the knife being used. Lastly a bullet we may use also as it can create suspense in showing clues in our film , other than a knife this could be a better option , incorporating it with the blood and making it look like a bullet that has been fired.
Costume:
For costume we are deciding to use either a leather jacket or a hoodie , both in a black colour as we believe black is a dull colour which can connote a very dark person , and the hoodie and joggers show a thuggish character which is what we want to show as the character is going to be mysterious and creepy. Also a black beanie adds to the hidden identity of the character , disguising him and not revealing him to an audience , also the fingerless black gloves we are using in our film connote a perplexing and cryptic character and that he is willing to get his hands dirty as he is prepared with fighting clothing. Lastly the colour black is good as it is dull and is a suitable colour for a thug like character , also with the filters we are going to use it will make him look much harder to see than the other character and makes him look more disguised and mysterious.
Location Ideas:
For a location we thought about a field as it is an isolated area where crime can be done without being seen as it is remote and in the middle of nowhere , we may do our whole opening in this location but may incorporate other areas but arent fully decided yet , the field we used runs off to the back of a few houses with a creepy long alley way which we also used as it is dark and another area that is remote.
Risk Assessment:
For safety precautions we will use a plastic knife to prevent the chance of injuries and accidentally being cut by it , the plastic knife will bend when in contact with it so it is safe. Also if near bushes , we will make sure to take precautions going near them with possiblities of cuts and bruises from nettles. Lastly when filming the knife will only be shown whilst filming so outsiders wont be threatened by it as the knife looks realistic unless you are aware it is plastic so we are taking precautions in that way also.
