Narrative:

Titles:

Firstly looking at titles , we used this font and this name for the title of our film , we took ideas from the film Shutter Island which I heavily analysed , especially looking at the titles of the film which I took my ideas from. The title 'The Conspiracy' appealed to us most as it suited a mystery thriller as it connotes a mystery or something hidden and it is short and fast.

I liked the idea of the bold looking font but we chose a different font which we believed matched the genre of thriller to create a mysterious look , so we used the typical convention of block characters for the title of the film , such as the title below , so our media product develops the idea of block like characters for usual thriller films.

We used the font , Bank Gothic throughout our entire film opening as looking at films I analysed their was no changes in font so we stayed the same throughout and we used the same style as Shutter Island by having a blank screen and having the companies we made changing every few seconds and then when we introduced the other titles like the cast we put those over the actual film but using the same font.

The title of our film is relatively short and is more like the two titles Shutter Island and Unknown rather than other mystery thrillers like:

And especially comedy films which typically have longer titles which can sometimes be funny or unusual such as The 40 Year Old Virgin and Hot Tub Time Machine.

Setting/Location:

Our media product has two main setting with parallel editing between the two shots of the field location and the warehouse location.

The setting of the fields is a mysterious and remote place which is the reason for us using it , in usual mystery thriller type movies a remote quiet place is used even if it is not necessarily a field.
As we can see from this shot from Shutter Island a remote area is used to connote mystery and thrills for an audience as in the shot we see the one character and an area which looks abandoned and forbidden which is typical for mystery thriller movies.

Another mystery thriller is Insomnia , which again uses a remote area here with a snowy mountainous area being used with a shack by itself in an area with nothing close to it connoting a mysterious area which intreggues an audience and typically with mystery thrillers there is death and death is commonly done in hidden areas where there are no witnesses which is the reason for our setting being used.

The second setting was a warehouse setting we used which is again very typical in thriller movies and also horror movies , as it is very creepy and can be used as a remote area situated with crime.

For example in the 1992 crime movie Resevoir Dogs , a warehouse is used for most of the shots in the film as the film revolves around a number of criminals who meet up in a warehouse after a crime commited , however in our film opening we didnt have access to a whole warehouse so we used a room which we only showed parts of to make it look of a warehouse room so our film opening supports the usual convention of warehouses being effectively used in movies.

Costume/props:

The costume in our film opening for the antagonist was an all black attire with the items above , fingerless gloves which gave the character a thug like attitude , joggers to create again a thug or youth like character and the hat which made him hidden to add more mystery to the character.

The props we used where all to the left which consisted of knives only with multiple shots of the gallery of knives being cleaned by the antagonist , the main knife was the one at the bottom which was used in the murder in the film and is being held in the action shot below.

How the characters are introduced:

In our media production , the main antagonist is wearing fully black but doesn't represent the typical murder antagonist in films like the images shown below.

In our media product we have the main character as a murderer which is shown clearly in the product , instead of using the traditional serial killers in movies such as the ones below , Mike Myers (left) in Halloween and Freddy Krueger.

We decided to have a different looking murderer , so we  stayed away from the typical murderer and decided to have the main murderer similar to the two characters below , However we didnt reveal the identity of the murderer to build a suspense.

So the shots are like this seeing the bottom of the character and not showing the face of the main character.

Ultimately we represent particular social groups such as teenagers as two completely opposite types as we have the one character which is the murderer wearing all black and having a knife as a weapon connoting the rough teenage group who wear hoodies and are often situated with crime and harrassment. However the other character is just a usual student wearing regular clothes and is the victim of the murderer showing how he is the complete opposite being targeted by the violent teenage group.

Examples of lower end production companies include:

These production companies are responsible for lower end budget films near the 1 million range , an example is Submarine which was co produced by all three companies , therefore showing how our film would need convergence of production to get a larger budget.

In our production research , I looked into a possible target audience for our production.

Member of our target audience:

Target audience profile:
Age: 18

Hobbies: Shopping , being out with friends , films and TV and listening to music.

Extra:
- Her favourite TV programme is The Walking Dead
- Her favourite artist is Ellie Goulding
- Her favourite actor is Leonardo DiCaprio
- Her favourite film is The Shawshank Redemption

She would be a suitable viewer for our film as her favourite film is a mystery thriller which is the same genre of our film and She likes The Walking dead which has a lot of death and gore therefore will enjoy our film which starts straight away with a murder scene.

Firstly the title of our film is very intriguing to an audience I believe as 'The Conspiracy' can suggest anything to an audience and it is something that can shock or surprise an audience. Moreover people can begin to question what the conspiracy will be about and be intrigued to know the final product or outcome of the situation.

Also the plot I believe can attract an audience as if somebody enjoys thrillers , which are usually fast paced , then with our film opening which starts off with action straight away with a chase scene so a thriller fan will straight away be attracted to the film.

Also the beginning titles in our film opening which have no background but a black screen connote mystery to an audience as they cant see anything happening and doesn't reveal anything to an audience therefore will intrigue an audience.

From my prelimenary task i have learnt a lot to improve onto the final production , a main problem in the prelimenary task was the shot variation as the whole clip consisted of medium shots , cuts and an occasional long shot , whereas in our final piece we wanted a wider variety so we had extreme close ups , close ups and many other shots , we also tested shots that werent used in our final production which was a POV shot and an over the shoulder shot. In our prelimenary task our main objective was to have a shot- reverse shot , 180 rule and a match on action , this helped me gain a better understanding of wider camera shots and editing techniques as previously I didnt know how to do a match on action and a 180 rule. Also the task had plain cuts and in our final piece we predominantly used cuts but we did also use fades for example at the end of the production when the opening ended we used a fade.
